IHSN Toolkit Training in Cambodia for various Agencies of the National Statistical System (Siem Reap, 28 September – 2 October 2009)

The IHSN Toolkit Training and DDI Production Workshop for Cambodia was held in Siem Reap from 28 September to 2 October 2009. The Training was conducted by the ADP Asia team in coordination with the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) of Cambodia. Participants were 13 personnel from the NIS and 5 from line Ministries, namely: Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports; Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; Ministry of Health; and Ministry of Tourism.

Demonstration of the CD-ROM Builder and the NADA stirred up interest among the participants and motivated them to document.

National survey catalog upgraded at LISGIS, Liberia (Monrovia, September 26-30, 2009)

The Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) upgraded their NADA system. This was done with the assistance of the Ghana Statistical Service. See the catalog at www.lisgis.org/nada.

IHSN Toolkit training Mexico (Aguascalientes, September 21-25, 2009).

The Toolkit course was conducted in Aguascalientes in September 2009. Seminar participants were very knowledgeable of INEGI’s statistical operations, and quickly grasped the techniques provided through the Toolkit. Participants to the workshop included 33 participants from INEGI Federal Office, three from the Planning Institute of Guanajuato (IPLANEG), which is already subscribed to the Accelerated Data Program, two from the Secretary of Planning and Budget of the State of Yucatan (SPP), and one from the Yucatan INEGI Regional Statistical Office.

ADP-JMP joint presentation at WHO workshop (Glion sur Montreux, Switzerland, September 21-22, 2009)

The ADP together with the Joint Monitoring Program on Water and Sanitation (JMP) gave a joint presentation on reconciliation of data on water and sanitation (ADP Task 2 in Nigeria) at a workshop held by the WHO. The workshop focused on improving data quality and the use of survey data to reconcile and validate routine data.

Russian Statistics Office visit to IHSN/OECD (Paris, September 16-17, 2009)

Three representatives from the Central Russian Statistics Offices (ROSSTAT) visited the OECD offices to receive an introduction to the Toolkit and best practices in data archiving. The representatives met for two days to discuss the tools provided in the IHSN Microdata Management Toolkit.

The representatives were from the Household Budget Survey Division and the tools were well received. ROSSTAT representatives will return to Moscow and discuss the next steps to implement the tools. Special thanks to the ROSSTAT representatives for the chocolate they brought from Moscow.
