The ADP at the Philippines’ 11th National Convention on Statistics (Manila, 5 October 2010)
As part of the advocacy of the ADP in the Philippines, the ADP Manila team participated in the 11th National Convention on Statistics (NCS), held from 4 to 5 October 2010 at the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel, Mandaluyong City, Philippines and contributed a paper in line with this year’s NCS theme: “Towards a Philippine Statistical System (PSS) Responsive to Emerging National and Global Challenges”. The paper entitled “The Role of Documentation in a Culture of Excellence in Philippine Statistics” was presented by Gaye Parcon (GP) in the ADP-sponsored session.
Microdata Management Toolkit Training and DDI Production Workshop in Cape Verde (Praia, 20-24 September 2010)
The first Microdata Management Toolkit Training was held in Praia, Cape Verde, from 20 to 24 September 2010, for INEC staff. The training included a DDI production workshop where 11 national surveys were documented. INEC top management confirmed its interest in the ADP and a full support proposal is being designed.
Joint ADP/AFRISTAT sub-regional training on NADA 3.0 organized in Bamako, Mali, 14-16 September 2010
The ADP organized with AFRISTAT a sub-regional training on NADA 3.0 in Bamako on 14-16 September. Participants from National Statistics Offices from Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal attended the sessions. All but Cape Verde, Morocco and Mauritania already maintain a NADA on their websites.
This training follows a previous successful joint training on NADA 2.0, organized in 2008.
The workshop focused on:
- Introducing the new NADA 3.0.
- Training in NADA 3.0 installation.
- Training in NADA 3.0 administration.
CENTROESTAD considering DDI as a regional standard
The III Meeting of the Central-America Statistical Commission (CENTROESTAD) of the Central America Integration System (SICA) was held in San Salvador (El Salvador) on September 1-2, 2010 . The meeting was hosted by Mr. Glenn Avilez, Pro-Tempore President of CENTROESTAD and head of the National Statistical Office (NSO) of Belize. The meeting was attended by Directors and high level representatives from the national statistics offices of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Panama and Belize. Representatives from the Nicaragua were not able to participate.
Cambodia NIS launches its on-line survey catalog on 6 August 2010 !
The National Institute of Statistics (NIS) in Cambodia launched its National Data Archive (NADA) on 6 August 2010. The launch, which was held in the NIS premises in Phnom Penh, was attended by guests from other government agencies and representatives from international organizations that provide support for NIS projects. The activity was formally opened by Mr. Lundy Saint, ADP coordinator for the NIS and Director of the ICT Department, followed by his introduction of data documentation and dissemination using the IHSN tools.
