Philippines National Statistics Office Data Archive launched (Manila, 30 October 2009)

The National Statistics Office (NSO) of the Philippines introduced to the public its Online Data Archive in a simple ceremony on 30 October 2009 (http://www.census.gov.ph/nsoda/) . Represented during the occasion were data users and government data producers. The data users were from the academe, policy-making institutions, an international organization as well as private individuals.

Survey data archive initiated at Institut National de l’Enfance (IHE), Haiti

The Institut National de l’Enfance (IHE) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti  recently completed implementing the Global Fund 5 Year Evaluation household survey and under funding provided by ICF Macro, developed an archive using the IHSN NADA application (see: http://www.ihehaiti.org/). In addition the IHE is the implementation organization for the Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and has a series of over 15 other surveys and studies it will document and add to their archive.

NADA installed on IFORD website (Yaounde, Cameroon, 25 October 2009-11-09)

The NADA application has been installed on the server of the Institut de Formation et de Recherche Démographiques (IFORD) and is available from its website at the following address: http://www.iford-cm.org/nada

The National Statistics Office of Cameroon was instrumental in this installation. IFORD has now the human and technical capacity to disseminate its survey metadata and microdata on-line.

It is expected that the version 2 of the application will be installed before the end of the year, as documented surveys are posted on the website.

IHSN Toolkit training in the State of Yucatán, Mexico (Mérida, October 12-16, 2009)

This mission was framed in the process of the development of the State Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) in the State of Yucatan, supported by the World Bank. The Microdata Management Toolkit Training Workshop involved 26 participants - eight from the State Secretary of Planning and Budget (SPP), fourteen from five State Secretaries (Health, Education, Social Affairs, Tourism and Farming).

Two IHSN Toolkit trainings organized in Côte d’Ivoire (Agboville, 21 September – 2 October 2009)

Two national IHSN toolkit trainings were organized in Agboville, Côte d’Ivoire, in the context of the implementation of the Accelerated Data Program in the country.

The first training was targeted at the National Statistical Office and 20 of its staff were trained on the Toolkit and are now proficient on its use. The documentation of about 20 of the NSO’s past surveys was initiated during the workshop. A national consultant is now finalizing the documentation.
